Spindrift is set in the fictional town of Seal Cove, located near the mouth of the very real and very beautiful Damariscotta River. I grew up on the waters around there–Boothbay Harbor, the Sheepscot River, Linekin Bay–and I’ve managed to work my love of the ocean into two series, now. Compass Rose and her crew sail the swollen Atlantic of the future, and the characters in Spindrift live, sail, and swim in the Atlantic of today.
I was born in Maine. My family moved around afterward, ultimately settling in Western New York, but we spent the summers visiting family Down East, as they say in New England, and there are a few places that have become incredibly important to me over the years.
One of them is a small island nobody has ever heard of. It is my favorite place in the world. Knowing this, and because she is a smart woman, my wife proposed to me on that island in a hammock looking out over the ocean and the stars. Spoiler: I said yes.
I’m excited to share some of these places (fictionalized, of course) with you over the course of the Seal Cove Series. To celebrate, I want YOU to share your favorite places with me. Tell me where you had your first romance (or the romance that changed your life) and I will enter you into a giveaway for a free ebook of Spindrift!
You can comment here or on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) wherever the blog is shared. Winner will be announced Monday, August 17 at 3 PM.
